Daydreamer

He’s alone in his thoughts as he sits in class. His mind too full of wonder to focus on the task. “Wake up, says his teacher, you’ve got work to do.” “Science and math and a test or two.” But he never hears a word she says. He is lost deep in the fantasy inside his head. He dreams of a world far away Where he can laugh and play. Where girls and boys Can have all the candy and toys. Where dragons can fly And castles soar into the sky. Where monsters roar And eagles soar. Where there are no rules And never a day of school. That is where his mind is at, All day, in that chair he sat. But teacher don’t despair. For while homework he might not care. That boy who you scold Might be the one who changes the world.

9th Inning

The situation was tense as the innings grew late.
The home team held a one-run lead,
But their rival's best hitter was at the plate.
The count was three and two, the bases were full,
The crowd let out a brief hush as the pitcher let the ball go.
The slugger swong his bat with all his might,
Sending the ball soaring into that brilliant night.
The centerfielder raced back on the ball,
His feet flying across the turf,
Trying desperately to reach the ball
Before it fell to the earth.
At the last moment, he leaped into the air
And went crashing into the wall.
And then he rose
baseball stadium
to his feet,
Holding the baseball!
How he caught that ball,
I’ll never quite know how.
But the home team has won!
So all is right in the world,
At least for now.
Ahh, but if they could only win the pennant,
Wouldn't that be a true delight.
Perfect as the splendor
Of this warm summer night.
